Cross-Border Illegal Arms Smuggling Module Busted in Punjab, 3 Arrested

CHANDIGARH, Apr 14: The Punjab Police has busted a cross-border arms smuggling module, arresting three persons and recovering six pistols from their possession, an official said on Tuesday.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, in a post on X, said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms and were facilitating the smuggling of illegal weapons.

He further said that after receiving the consignments, the accused supplied the weapons to criminal elements across Punjab.

The Amritsar Police also recovered six pistols from their possession, he added. An FIR has been registered at Police Station Cantonment in Amritsar under relevant provisions of the Arms Act.

The DGP said that further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages and to dismantle the entire network involved in the smuggling racket. (Agency)
