LeT Co-Founder Amir Hamza Shot at in Lahore Attack

Amir Hamza, a founding member of Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was shot at by unidentified assailants in Lahore and is currently in critical condition, according to media reports.

Hamza, who co-founded the outfit along with Hafiz Saeed in the mid-1980s, has been linked to multiple terror-related activities in India and other countries. Several reports suggest the attack took place outside a news channel office in Lahore, where gunmen opened fire before fleeing the scene. He was later rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Who is Amir Hamza?

Amir Hamza is among the early founding figures of Lashkar-e-Taiba, alongside Hafiz Saeed, and has long been associated with terror-linked activities, including operations against India.

He is regarded as a veteran of the Afghan jihad and was known within the organisation for his speeches and ideological writings. Hamza previously served as the founding editor of LeT’s publication Majallah al-Daawa and authored a book titled Qafila Da’wat aur Shahadat in 2002.

The United States has designated Lashkar-e-Taiba as a terrorist organisation and has placed Hamza under its sanctions regime. He is believed to have held a key position in the group’s central leadership, with responsibilities including recruitment, fundraising, and coordination linked to detained operatives. (Agency)
