The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) on Thursday released footage showing the US Navy enforcing maritime control measures around Iranian ports by diverting a merchant vessel.
A sailor aboard the USS Michael Murphy (Warship 112) is seen communicating with the “Motor Vessel Molly,” instructing the crew that the vessel would be escorted to its next port of call.
“Thank you for your cooperation,” the sailor can be heard saying in the video shared by CENTCOM on X.
CENTCOM stated that US forces remain fully prepared to continue operations for as long as required.
It further said that US military assets are actively enforcing a large-scale maritime operation around Iran’s ports and coastline, involving more than 10,000 personnel, over a dozen naval vessels, and over 100 aircraft.
In another post, CENTCOM shared that USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) was transiting the Arabian Sea as US forces maintained operations in regional waters. It clarified that the United States is not blocking the Strait of Hormuz, but is targeting wider maritime activity linked to Iranian ports.
The command also released images of sailors aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Delbert D. Black (DDG 119), highlighting ongoing naval deployment in the region.
This development comes after former US President Donald Trump indicated that the US would begin restricting maritime access following failed talks with Iran.
The reported measures were said to have taken effect earlier in the week, although shipping activity in the Strait of Hormuz has continued, with several vessels, including Iran-linked tankers, transiting the route.
Meanwhile, Washington and Tehran are currently observing a ceasefire that began last week, with reports suggesting possible extensions to allow further negotiations on a broader peace agreement.
Trump, commenting on the situation, said the naval operations were proceeding smoothly, adding that US forces were effectively managing the situation in the region. (Agency)
