Bhagwat Calls for Greater Promotion of Sanskrit Language in India, Stresses Cultural Revival

NEW DELHI, Apr 20: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday made a strong pitch for the greater promotion of Sanskrit in the country, saying its wider use will not only enrich other Indian languages but also act as a bridge between them while connecting people with India’s ancient culture and thought.

Addressing an event organised to inaugurate the newly constructed central office of Sanskrit Bharati, Bhagwat said the essence of “Bharat” is not limited to geography or politics but represents a continuous tradition that sustains life and values across generations.

He said India is a land of diverse languages, each important in its own right, but Sanskrit serves as the connecting link among them. According to him, understanding India’s civilisational heritage is incomplete without understanding Sanskrit.

Bhagwat called for efforts to ensure wider learning and usage of Sanskrit, stating that it should reach a stage where people across the country are able to converse in the language.

He further described Sanskrit not merely as a language but as the “life force” of Indian tradition, culture, and thought, adding that its growth would naturally strengthen all Indian languages without replacing them.

He said Sanskrit has always coexisted with other languages and continues to survive in different forms across families and regions, calling it a unifying and bridge language that links India’s linguistic diversity. (Agency)
