NEW DELHI, Apr 22: President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday paid tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and reaffirmed that India remains firm and resolute in its commitment to defeat terrorism in all its forms across the world.
She said the tragic loss of innocent lives in the heinous attack remains deeply etched in the nation’s memory and expressed her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, adding that the entire country stands in solidarity with them. She emphasized that such acts of terror cannot shake India’s unwavering resolve for peace, unity, and harmony.
As many as 25 tourists and a local pony handler were killed by three terrorists linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) on April 22 last year. All three terrorists were later neutralized in the July 28 encounter, code-named Operation Mahadev, in the Dachigam-Harwan forest area on the outskirts of Srinagar.
Murmu reiterated, “We remain resolute in our determination to defeat terrorism everywhere in all its forms.”
Following the attack, the Indian Armed Forces carried out precision strikes on May 7 under Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The strikes hit nine locations, including headquarters and training camps of LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammed, from where attacks against India were being planned and directed. (Agency)
