TVK Chief Vijay Targets DMK in TN Debut | 5 Key Facts About Actor-Politician

TVK chief and actor Vijay has launched a sharp attack on the ruling DMK, calling it an “evil force” while making his political debut by contesting from two seats in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

C Joseph Vijay, widely known as Thalapathy, is the founder and president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and is emerging as a key contender in the state polls. Once a major film superstar with a career spanning over three decades, Vijay entered full-time politics in 2024, saying he has given up his “luxurious life” to serve the people.

For the April 23 elections, he is contesting from Perambur in Chennai and Trichy East. His campaign positions TVK as a “pure force” against the ruling DMK, with Vijay choosing to contest without any alliances.

Under the symbol of a whistle, TVK has focused its campaign on issues like youth welfare, drug eradication, and reforms in government examinations. The party has also promised monthly financial assistance schemes, including ₹4,000 for graduates and ₹2,500 for women.

Despite being a newcomer to politics, Vijay’s entry has drawn massive attention. His campaign is also surrounded by legal and political challenges, including disputes related to his final film Jananayakan and a CBI probe into a 2025 stampede incident in Karur that claimed several lives.
