Rajouri BDO Plangher Suspended Over Poor Progress in Panchayat Electoral Roll Revision

RAJOURI, Apr 28: District Panchayat Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, has placed Block Development Officer (BDO) Plangher, Mohtshim Hanief, under suspension with immediate effect over slow progress in the ongoing Panchayat Electoral Roll Revision-2026.

Officials said the officer, who was also functioning as Assistant Electoral Registration Officer, had earlier been cautioned on multiple occasions regarding the delayed progress in the revision exercise. He was also formally communicated through official letters dated April 10 and April 17.

They added that during special camps conducted on April 25 and April 26, all concerned officers were instructed to ensure at least 4 percent addition in the electoral roll within the stipulated timeframe.

However, the officer allegedly failed to perform his duties effectively, leading to delays and incomplete updating of electoral rolls, non-compliance with prescribed guidelines and timelines, and inadequate supervision of field staff.

Officials further stated that these lapses adversely impacted the accuracy and credibility of the revision process.

In view of these shortcomings, the officer has been placed under suspension pending a detailed inquiry.

During the suspension period, Mohtshim Hanief has been attached to the office of Assistant Commissioner Panchayat Rajouri and has been directed not to leave the headquarters without prior approval. (Agency)
