Pakistan: Imran Khan given 4th injection for eye problem, sent back to jail

Pakistan’s jailed former prime minister Imran Khan was taken to a hospital on Tuesday for treatment of his right eye condition, where he received a fourth intravitreal injection before being shifted back to prison.

Khan, 74, who was diagnosed with right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) earlier this year, was brought to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for a scheduled follow-up.

Doctors administered an anti-VEGF injection as part of his ongoing monthly treatment plan. His previous dose was given on March 23. Before the procedure, ophthalmologists examined him and found his condition clinically stable, with scans indicating improvement.

The injection was carried out under microscopic guidance, and Khan remained stable throughout the process. He was later discharged with instructions for continued care and regular follow-ups.

Meanwhile, his family and party members have renewed demands for his transfer to a private hospital, where he can receive treatment under the supervision of personal doctors and in the presence of family.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Gohar Ali Khan confirmed the hospital visit, stating that concerns regarding Khan’s medical care remain unresolved and calling access to proper treatment a fundamental right.

Earlier, Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi had also undergone eye surgery at a Rawalpindi hospital and was later returned to Adiala Jail. Both have been in custody since their conviction in the Al-Qadir Trust case last year.  (Agency)
