VARANASI (UP), Apr 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday morning held a roadshow in Varanasi during the second day of his two-day visit, drawing massive crowds along the entire route, party leaders said.
The roadshow began from Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) and passed through Lahartara, Kachahri, Ambedkar Chauraha, Chaukaghat, Teliyabag, Lahurabir and Maidagin before concluding at the Kashi Vishwanath Dham.
At the temple, the Prime Minister offered prayers and performed rituals amid Vedic chants. After completing the rituals, he was welcomed by local representatives who presented him with a trishul, damru and a traditional stole. Modi acknowledged the gesture and greeted those present.
As he exited the temple complex, devotees raised slogans of “Har Har Mahadev”, to which the Prime Minister responded by waving and folding his hands. He also briefly interacted with children at the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor.
BJP media in-charge Arvind Mishra said people across Varanasi were eager to see the Prime Minister, with party workers, office bearers and residents lining up along the entire route.
Supporters and devotees raised slogans like “Har Har Mahadev” and “Jai Shri Ram” to welcome the Prime Minister, who responded warmly by greeting them.
Mishra added that several welcome points were set up along the route where party workers and locals greeted the Prime Minister with rose petals, drum beats and conch shell sounds.
The nearly 14-km-long roadshow is being described by party leaders as one of the largest public events ever witnessed in the city.
Heavy crowds were seen on both sides of the roads throughout the route, officials said.
After concluding his visit to Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency, the Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh later in the day. (Agency)
