Shopian, Apr 30: Two persons lost their lives and one other was injured after a steam boiler explosion at a cold storage facility in the Aglar Pinjura area of Shopian on Wednesday late evening, officials said.
An official said the incident took place at Zum Zum Cold Store in the fruit mandi while a steam boiler was under repair.
He said three engineers sustained injuries in the blast and were immediately shifted to District Hospital Shopian for treatment.
One of the injured, identified as Saurabh Singh from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, succumbed to his injuries on arrival at the hospital, while two others, Raj Kumar and Shiv Kumar, were undergoing treatment.
Later during the night, Shiv Kumar also succumbed to his injuries, taking the death toll to two. Officials said the condition of Raj Kumar remains critical.
According to officials, the incident occurred when the workers were repairing the boiler, which suddenly exploded for reasons yet to be ascertained.
Police have taken cognizance of the matter and an investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the explosion. (Agency)
