Finally, the legendary Mitchell Starc is available for Delhi Capitals once again. The Australian fast bowler has been badly missed by the IPL franchise, whose campaign this season has struggled due to their inability to finish games strongly. As a result, they now need to win most of their remaining matches to stay in contention for the playoffs.

Starc had been out of action due to shoulder and elbow injuries. He featured in all five Tests of the 2025–26 Ashes series and delivered a superb spell of bowling, helping Australia secure a dominant 4-1 victory. He also played in the Big Bash League for the Sydney Sixers later, but the heavy workload eventually took a toll on his body. Since then, he has not played competitive cricket for over three months.

Later today, Delhi Capitals face Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, and Starc is available for selection. However, it remains to be seen whether DC will throw him straight into the playing XI. So far, Delhi have relied on Tristan Stubbs, Pathum Nissanka, David Miller and Lungi Ngidi as their core overseas options. After Ngidi’s injury, Kyle Jamieson stepped in during their last match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where DC were bundled out for just 75.
Starc or Ngidi? Big selection dilemma
Ngidi is also available for today’s match, which puts Delhi Capitals in a tough position. If they want to play both Starc and the South African pacer, they may have to drop one of Stubbs, Miller, or Nissanka. However, given their recent batting struggles, that looks unlikely.
This leaves DC choosing between Starc and Ngidi, and the edge may slightly go to the Australian veteran.
Ngidi has been impressive in his appearances, but Starc remains one of the most dangerous left-arm pacers in world cricket. His reputation alone brings immense value to the side, and DC desperately need his impact as their campaign loses momentum.
With five losses and three wins in eight matches, Delhi Capitals currently sit seventh on the points table. They will be hoping Starc’s return can spark a turnaround. On his day, very few bowlers in world cricket can match his impact. (Agency)
