Jammu, Apr 11:<\/strong> Asserting that \u201cthose destroying the future of our youth will not be spared,\u201d Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday launched a 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir<\/em> campaign, announcing strict measures including cancellation of passports, Aadhaar cards, and attachment of properties of drug smugglers.<\/p>\n

Addressing a gathering at MA Stadium in Jammu, the LG said the fight against drug abuse is a collective responsibility, noting that the menace has spread across villages, districts, and all sections of society.<\/p>\n

Outlining the administration\u2019s strategy, he said a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been introduced to dismantle drug networks both financially and legally.<\/p>\n

\u201cPassports, Aadhaar cards, and driving licences of drug smugglers will be cancelled. Their movable and immovable properties will be attached, bank accounts frozen, and financial investigations initiated,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that major drug peddlers will be publicly identified at the police station level to enhance accountability and act as a deterrent.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the security angle, Sinha said drug trafficking is also being used to fund terrorism and destabilise society.<\/p>\n

\u201cA neighbouring country is pushing drugs to weaken our youth. Every consignment that reaches here is not just poison, but a weapon against our future,\u201d he said, urging agencies to act firmly while ensuring innocents are not harassed.<\/p>\n

Launching the campaign, the LG called for pad yatras and widespread awareness drives across Jammu and Kashmir, urging youth, civil society, and community leaders to actively participate.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis fight cannot be won by the administration alone. Society must come together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He emphasised the role of women, particularly mothers and sisters, in preventing substance abuse, noting that their awareness can bring meaningful change at the community level.<\/p>\n

Calling the next 100 days crucial, Sinha outlined a multi-pronged strategy involving grassroots awareness campaigns, counselling support in educational institutions, community engagement, and targeted outreach to vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n

He also said the government has notified the Jammu and Kashmir Substance Use Disorder Treatment, Counselling and Rehabilitation Centre Rules, 2026, to regulate de-addiction centres.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly genuine centres with proper staff and facilities will be allowed to operate. Strict action will be taken against violators,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Reiterating a balanced approach, the LG said individuals affected by addiction will receive full support for treatment, counselling, and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n
