Kathmandu\u00a0 Apr 22: Nepal\u2019s Home Minister Sudan Gurung on Wednesday resigned from his post, citing moral responsibility and the need for a fair and transparent investigation into concerns raised over his financial holdings.<\/p>\n
In a Facebook post announcing his resignation, Gurung said he had taken public criticism seriously and decided to step down to uphold ethical standards in public life.<\/p>\n
\u201cI, Sudan Gurung, have been performing my duties as the Home Minister with utmost honesty since Chaitra 13, 2082 (March 26, 2026). Recently, I have taken the questions, comments, and public concerns raised by citizens regarding my shares and related matters very seriously,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Emphasising integrity in governance, he stated that public trust must always come before holding any position. \u201cFor me, ethics hold more weight than any position, and there is no power greater than public trust. Today\u2019s \u2018Gen Z\u2019 movement, which demands good governance, transparency, and accountability, carries the same message: public life must be clean and leadership must be accountable,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Gurung also referred to the broader political context and past sacrifices, saying accountability becomes essential when questions are raised. \u201cWhen questions are raised against a government built on the blood and sacrifice of my 46 brothers and sisters, the only answer is morality,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Announcing his resignation, he said the decision would help ensure transparency and eliminate any possible conflict of interest. \u201cTo ensure a fair investigation into the matters concerning me and to prevent any conflict of interest while holding office, I have resigned from the post of Home Minister effective today,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He further appealed to citizens, the media, and youth to uphold honesty and accountability in public life, urging them to stand for truth and ethical governance. (Agency)<\/p>\n\n
