{"id":12363,"date":"2026-04-27T18:01:54","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T12:31:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/publicherald.in\/?p=12363"},"modified":"2026-04-27T18:02:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T12:32:09","slug":"jk-high-court-quashes-psa-detention-of-mla-mehraj-malik","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/publicherald.in\/?p=12363","title":{"rendered":"J&amp;K High Court Quashes PSA Detention of MLA Mehraj Malik"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"72\" data-end=\"352\"><strong data-start=\"72\" data-end=\"85\">SRINAGAR:<\/strong> The <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Jammu and Kashmir High Court<\/span><\/span> has quashed the Public Safety Act (PSA) detention of <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Mehraj Malik<\/span><\/span>, providing major relief to the Aam Aadmi Party legislator who had been in preventive custody since September last year, sources said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"354\" data-end=\"559\">Advocates representing Mehraj Malik said the court set aside the detention order after hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by him challenging his detention under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"561\" data-end=\"778\">Malik, who represents the Doda constituency and heads the AAP\u2019s J&amp;K unit, was detained on September 8, 2025, on allegations of activities prejudicial to public order. He was later shifted to a jail in Kathua district.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"780\" data-end=\"961\">The petition challenging his detention was heard on multiple occasions, and on February 23 this year, the court had reserved its judgment after concluding arguments from both sides.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"963\" data-end=\"1131\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">With the detention order now quashed, Malik is expected to be released after completion of legal formalities, unless required in connection with any other case.
