The commotion began soon after the House proceedings commenced, with NC MLAs rising to press the Speaker to allow debate on the Waqf law.
According to reports the situation escalated when the Speaker rejected the BJP’s adjournment motion on unemployment, terming it “not a matter of urgent nature.”
The announcement drew sharp protests from BJP legislators, who accused NC members of theatrics.
Chanting “Yeh Dramabazi Bandh Karo (stop this theatrics),” BJP MLAs raised slogans in the House.
NC MLA Nazir Gurezi countered by demanding space to speak on the Waqf bill, alleging injustice towards Muslims. “They want to divide Hindus and Muslims. They should also reveal how many jobs have been provided to the unemployed youth,” Gurezi shouted at the BJP members.
As tempers flared, BJP MLAs stormed into the well of the House and staged a sit-in, prompting the Speaker to adjourn the House till 1:00 AM.
