Delhi Court Sends Man Accused of Killing IRS Officer’s Daughter to 4-Day Police Custody

New Delhi, Apr 23: A Delhi court on Thursday sent a 19-year-old domestic help accused of killing the daughter of a senior IRS officer to four days of police custody for further investigation.

Judicial Magistrate Deepika Thakaran allowed Delhi Police’s request for custodial interrogation of the accused, Rahul Meena, who was produced in court with his face covered amid heavy crowd presence.

During the hearing, the court questioned the accused about injuries mentioned in the medico-legal report. Meena told the court he sustained the injuries while climbing down from a terrace.

When asked about the crime, the accused admitted to wrongdoing, stating that he had made a mistake. He further told the court that he needed the victim’s fingerprints to access a locker.

According to investigators, the accused allegedly assaulted the 22-year-old woman at her residence, after which he attempted to open a locker using her fingerprint. When unsuccessful, he reportedly broke it open using a tool and fled with cash and jewellery.

The court clarified that the accused’s statements during the hearing would not be treated as a formal confession.

Police told the court that custodial interrogation is required to recover the victim’s mobile phone, reconstruct the sequence of events, and determine if others were involved in the crime. Officials also said they are probing a similar case linked to the accused in Rajasthan.

The incident occurred at the victim’s residence in southeast Delhi, triggering widespread concern and prompting an intensive investigation by authorities. (Agency)
