‘Good Luck’: Iran Taunts US Over Hormuz Blockade Escalation

Tehran – Iran has mocked Washington’s attempt to restrict its oil lifeline, dismissing the US naval blockade threat in the Strait of Hormuz as a risky move that could trigger a global energy shock.

In a sharp political response, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf ridiculed the proposal, claiming Iran’s extensive 8,700-km network of land and sea borders makes any attempt to fully isolate it unrealistic.

Posting online, he challenged the United States to go ahead with the plan, even sarcastically suggesting that not even massive border walls could match Iran’s geography. “Good luck blockading a country with those borders,” he said, also taking a swipe at US defence chief Pete Hegseth.

The escalation comes after the Donald Trump administration moved to tighten restrictions on Iranian shipping following heightened tensions linked to the US–Israeli conflict involving Iran in late February.

Tehran has called the blockade “illegal” and warned that it could derail a fragile ceasefire reportedly brokered by Pakistan.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian described the move as “war by other means,” warning that it would not go unanswered.

With the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most vital oil transit routes—now at the centre of a geopolitical standoff, the key question remains whether Washington or Tehran will back down first. (Agency)
