SRINAGAR, Apr 16: Three persons were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district for allegedly spreading rumours on social media with the intent to disturb peace, police said on Thursday.
Police in the Sopore area of north Kashmir said the accused were detained for circulating misinformation and sharing old videos while falsely portraying them as recent incidents, allegedly aimed at disturbing public peace and order.
A police spokesman said a case has been registered at Sopore police station against the accused. Acting on the information, police identified and apprehended the individuals involved. The accused have not been identified so far.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
Police have also advised the public to avoid creating, sharing, or amplifying unverified content on social media, warning that such actions may attract strict legal action. (Agency)
