The Committee on Ease of Doing Business and revision of the Industrial Policy for Jammu and Kashmir on Monday held its first stakeholder consultation meeting at Udyog Bhawan, marking the formal beginning of efforts to reshape the Union Territory’s industrial ecosystem.
The meeting was chaired by Additional Chief Secretary, Finance, Shailendra Kumar, and was attended by representatives and office bearers of various industrial and trade associations from the Jammu division.
The consultation follows a series of 25 reports by under the title “Ease of Doing Business”, which highlighted regulatory hurdles, compliance challenges, and systemic issues faced by stakeholders across the Union Territory.
Among those present were committee members Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, and Amitava Chatterjee, Managing Director and CEO of Jammu and Kashmir Bank.
Officials said this was the first round of stakeholder consultations aimed at revising the Industrial Policy and improving the overall Ease of Doing Business in the region. The next meeting of the committee will be held in Kashmir.
During the deliberations, industry representatives shared detailed feedback on key issues including regulatory simplification, reduction in compliance burden, improved access to finance, infrastructure development, and measures to attract new investment while supporting existing industrial units.
Stakeholders also suggested specific amendments to be incorporated into the upcoming Industrial Policy framework.
The committee stressed the importance of continuous engagement with stakeholders in policy formulation and assured that all constructive suggestions would be examined in detail. It further noted that the new Industrial Policy will aim to build a competitive, transparent, and investor-friendly environment in Jammu and Kashmir.
