Man booked for 5.62 Lakh land fraud in Jammu :Breaking

Crime Branch Jammu registers fraud case over alleged land scam

The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of the Crime Branch Jammu has registered a case of fraud and cheating against a man accused of duping a couple in a land transaction.

According to officials, a woman from Chak Murar in Bishnah tehsil filed a complaint alleging that she and her husband were cheated while attempting to purchase agricultural land.

The accused, identified as Arjun Kumar of Kothey Hoshiaru, Bishnah, allegedly posed as the owner of a two-kanal land parcel in Village Palli, Bari Brahmana, Samba district.

The complainant stated that her husband inspected the land, after which the accused assured them that all documentation would be completed. Trusting him, the couple agreed to purchase the land for ₹6 lakh and paid ₹3.35 lakh initially in cash, followed by additional UPI transfers, bringing the total payment to ₹5.62 lakh.

However, despite receiving the money, the accused allegedly failed to hand over possession or execute the sale deed. Later inquiries revealed that the same land had reportedly been sold to another buyer. Verification by the Tehsildar’s office in Bari Brahmana also confirmed that the land was not registered in the accused’s name.

The complainant further alleged that the accused stopped responding and refused to return the money, causing significant financial loss.

Following preliminary verification, investigators concluded that the accused acted with fraudulent intent from the beginning.

A case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Police Station SCW Crime Branch Jammu, and the investigation has been assigned to Inspector Deepak Bharti. (Agency)
