A day after triggering a major political shake-up by reportedly quitting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha is facing a strong digital backlash, particularly from younger social media users.
While political defections often reshape party dynamics, the online reaction unfolded rapidly across social media platforms.
Sharp fall in Instagram following
In an era where digital presence often reflects public sentiment, Chadha’s Instagram following reportedly dropped from 14.6 million to 13.5 million within 24 hours of the development—marking a decline of nearly one million followers.
NCP (SP) spokesperson Anish Gawande highlighted the trend online, describing it as a Gen Z-driven “unfollow campaign”. He noted that the internet can elevate public figures overnight, but can also bring about a sharp reversal just as quickly.
“A viral GenZ ‘unfollow’ campaign on Instagram has led to Raghav Chadha’s followers dropping by 10 lakhs in 24 hours. The internet can make you a hero overnight. It can also bring you down just as quickly,” he said.
Parineeti Chopra also sees minor drop
According to a social media tracking website, actor Parineeti Chopra reportedly lost more than 4,600 Instagram followers on April 24. However, it remains unclear whether this decline is directly linked to reactions surrounding Chadha’s political development.
Parineeti Chopra currently has 42.9 million followers on Instagram. (Agency)
