Major Anti-Drug Drive in Anantnag: Illegal Structures Linked to Drug Peddlers Demolished

Anantnag, Apr 29: In a major crackdown against drug peddling and illegal encroachments, Anantnag Police in coordination with the civil administration demolished several structures worth crores built on state land along NH 44 in Sangam, targeting individuals allegedly involved in NDPS cases.

According to police, the demolition drive was carried out against properties illegally constructed on state land by persons involved in narcotics related offences.

During the operation, multiple structures raised on state land under Khasra No. 319 of estate Sangam along NHW 44 were removed. These structures were being used as roadside eateries and were found linked with individuals booked under the NDPS Act.

One establishment, “Kashmir Restaurant (Dabba)”, was owned by Gul Mohammad Mir and Bashir Ahmad Mir, residents of Donipora Sangam. Officials said Gul Mohammad Mir is involved in FIR No. 232/2011 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Bijbehara, while Bashir Ahmad Mir is involved in FIR Nos. 191/2020 and 213/2024 under various sections of the NDPS Act.

Another structure, “Taj Restaurant (Dabba)”, built on the same Khasra number, belonged to Mohammad Maqbool Mir along with his sons Aijaz Ahmad and Ghulam Mohi ud Din Mir, all residents of Donipora Sangam. They are involved in FIR No. 188/2021 under Sections 8/15 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Bijbehara.

Officials also said another structure identified as “MIR Restaurant”, situated between the two establishments and belonging to Amma Mir, was also demolished during the drive.

Authorities stated that all these structures were illegally built on state land without any authorization. The demolition was carried out as per legal procedures, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to act against drug networks and illegal encroachments.

Anantnag Police reiterated its zero tolerance policy against drugs and urged the public to assist law enforcement by reporting drug trafficking and other illegal activities. (Agency)
