Fake Overseas Job Scam: Man Trafficked to Cambodia EOW Srinagar Registers Case

Srinagar, Apr 29: In a shocking case of fraud and human trafficking, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Srinagar of Crime Branch Kashmir has registered a case after a man was allegedly cheated by a fake job consultancy and trafficked to Cambodia on the pretext of overseas employment.

According to officials, the EOW Srinagar took cognizance of a complaint alleging fraud in connection with an overseas job placement racket.

The complaint states that the victim was lured by an unauthorized consultancy operating from the Pattan area, which falsely promised him a job abroad as a computer operator with a high monthly salary. Acting on these assurances, he transferred a substantial amount of money to the accused’s bank account and also spent additional money on travel and related expenses.

Officials said that after reaching Cambodia, the victim was received by unknown persons and was allegedly forced to take part in fraudulent online activities instead of the promised job. When he refused, he realised he had been cheated and financially exploited under false promises.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that the case involves offences under Section 318(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Following this, a formal case has been registered at Police Station Economic Offences Wing, Srinagar.

Authorities said further investigation is underway to identify and trace those involved in the racket. (Agency)
