J&K High Court Quashes PSA Detention of MLA Mehraj Malik

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has quashed the Public Safety Act (PSA) detention of Mehraj Malik, providing major relief to the Aam Aadmi Party legislator who had been in preventive custody since September last year, sources said.

Advocates representing Mehraj Malik said the court set aside the detention order after hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by him challenging his detention under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act.

Malik, who represents the Doda constituency and heads the AAP’s J&K unit, was detained on September 8, 2025, on allegations of activities prejudicial to public order. He was later shifted to a jail in Kathua district.

The petition challenging his detention was heard on multiple occasions, and on February 23 this year, the court had reserved its judgment after concluding arguments from both sides.

With the detention order now quashed, Malik is expected to be released after completion of legal formalities, unless required in connection with any other case. (Agency)
